Senegal’s locally-based national team coach Moustapha Seck believes the U-23 side has what it takes to reach the final of the 2015 Africa U-23 Cup of Nations.

The young Lions, who recorded consecutive victories over South Africa, Tunisia and Zambia in the group stage of the continental tournament, will be looking to extend their winning run when they face Nigeria in the last four this Wednesday.

And while Seck admits that the Nigerians have an impressive pedigree, he remains confident of seeing the hosts progress to the final.

“The eight nations which competed at the tournament are the best the continent has to offer right now, so to qualify for the semifinals was an important step,” Moustapha Seck told the local media.

“Now, regardless of the opponents, we need to win to reach the final. This game is crucial as it means a qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio.

“If you look at the pedigree, Nigeria are favourites because they already won the Gold medal at the Olympics. But the truth is on the pitch and we are playing with the support of our fans. Senegal have what it takes to progress.”

The match will kick off at 4pm at Stade Léopold Sédar Senghor this Wednesday.
