Sunday Chinedu’s headed effort in to the goal in the 14th minute was all the Harmony Boys needed to secure three points against FC Ifeanyi Ubah and further compound the woes of the Anambra Warriors with three losses in three games in one of the Match Day 23 fixtures of the NPFL played this Sunday.
Ladan Bosso’s led technical crew made four changes to the side that lost to MFM FC last Sunday as Adeleye Olamilekan and U-20 National Team player Nwenyi Ebuka usurped Issif Traore and Osia Felix in the starting 11, utility player Wasiu Jimoh who has been played largely as a right fullback this season was pushed forward to the attacking position thereby creating space for Maamo Joseph with tall and lanky feeder team forward Eze Chibuike making his second league appearance ahead of the injured duo of Alaekwe Chijioke and Obaje Godwin.
The Anambra Warriors off the back of a poor run needed an instant response at the blast of the referee’s whistle in a charged atmosphere and an almost capacity crowd at the Kwara Sports Complex, Ilorin. The Warriors had a legitimate goal wrongly chalked off by the match officials in the 6th minute from a Wasiu Jimoh’s ambitious effort outside the box richocheting off the crossbar with Seka Pascal well positioned to tap in the rebound but the match officials adjudged that the goal would not stand citing offside positional play much to the disdain of the FCIU players and team officials.
From then on it was a case of some questionable and controversial calls by the officials which frustrated the effort of the Anambra Warriors to get ahead in the game.
The home team would eventually get the game decider in the 14th minute from Chinedu Sunday to seal victory as the league goes on a month break for the Copa Mundial in Russia. With the result the Anambra Warriors are now 17th on the log and will play their next game against Wikki Tourists after the break.
