The United States U16 team started the FIBA Americas U17 Championship in Chile on a flying note after hammering El Salvador with close to 100 points in their first game.
The clash between world Basketball power house, US and El Salvador was almost a no match before the clash.
The Americans at all levels almost don’t have a match as they have swept all the trophies in all categories in the past years, the El Salvador were not only defeated by the pedigree of their opponents but by the stature of the Americans.
It was almost the case of a ‘David and Goaliath’ just that the David in this case never won the battle.
It ended 114-19 in favour of the Americans. The U.S. team took advantage of that size difference to score 70 points in the paint, as well as out-rebound their Salvadoran opponents, 64-23. Londynn Jones led the U.S. with 21 points, which alone would have been enough to win the game.
With the win, the U.S. U16 team improved to 25-1 overall in the FIBA Americas tournaments. In the five previous editions, they’ve won four gold medals and one bronze.
