2022 Wimbledon Round of 16: Nadal, Kyrgios through to last eight as Tan run ends

Halep, Fritz also through to quarterfinals

Rafael Nadal continued with his bid to complete a calendar Grand Slam this year as he defeated Botic van de Zandschulp in straight sets in their 2022 Wimbledon Round of 16 clash. The Spaniard claimed a 6-4 6-2 7-6 win over his Dutch opponent to qualify for the quarterfinals.

11th seed Taylor Fritz booked a quarterfinal meeting with Nadal after he defeated Jason Kubler in straight sets in their Round of 16 clash. Fritz emerged with a 6-3 6-1 6-4 win to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Controversial Australian star Nick Kyrgios shook off a shoulder injury to reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal since 2015. Kyrgios claimed a win in his 2022 Wimbledon Round of 16 meeting with Brandon Nakashima in five sets. The match ended 4-6 6-4 7-6 3-6 6-2 in favour of Kyrgios.

Chilean number one Cristian Garin put up a brilliant performance to defeat Alex De Minaur in five sets and reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal. After losing the first two sets and taking a battering in the third, the Chilean put on a show to recover and win the Wimbledon Round of 16 match. The match ended 2-6 5-7 7-6 6-4 7-6.

In the women’s draw, Simona Halep ended fourth seed Paula Badosa’s run in the competition. The Romanian claimed a 6-1 6-2 straight sets win to progress to the quarterfinals of the competition.

Ajla Tomljanovic ended Alize Cornet’s run in the tournament by recovering from one set down to defeat the veteran Frenchwoman and qualify for the quarterfinals. Tomljanovic claimed a 4-6 6-4 6-3 win in the match.

Harmony Tan saw her fairytale run in Wimbledon come to an end at the hands of 20-year-old Amanda Anisimova. Anisimova claimed a straight sets win from their match, emerging with a 6-2 6-3 result against her French opponent.

Elena Rybakina defeated Petra Martic in straight sets to qualify for the quarterfinals in Wimbledon. Rybakina claimed a 7-5 6-3 win over her Croatian opposition in their Round of 16 meeting.
