Amokachi: Why 1994 Eagles remain ‘golden’ despite 2013 Eagles’ feat

Retired Super Eagles attacker Daniel Amokachi has explained why the 1994 Super Eagles are the best in Nigeria’s history.

The former Everton striker proudly named his Eagles the best ever despite being part of the 2013 Eagles who achieves similar feat as the 1994 Eagles.

The 1994 Super Eagles who Daniel Amokachi was part of as a player won the African Nations Cup and got eliminated in the 2nd round of the 1994 world cup.

The Eagles led by Mikel Obi also won the Nations Cup and got knocked out of the world cup in the second round.

Despite achieving the same feat as the 1994 Eagles, Amokachi said the quality of the players in his Eagles cannot be compared to what Eagles had in 2013 when he workd with Keshi as an assistant coach.

“The quality of the 94 team was better than that of 2013. The 94 Eagles were fifth in the ‘ranking (after the World Cup) but the 2013 side struggled in it’s first three games before beating Cote ‘d’ Ivoire in the Quarter Final,” he said of the comparison of the teams.

The 1994 Eagles who are still remembered by fans across the globe was stacked with experience and super talented players like Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amunike, Sunday Oliseh, Augustine Okocha, Augustine Eguavon, and Samson Siasia.

“We can’t find enough of quality in the present day Eagles to nolify the remembrance of 1994 squad.”

Daniel Amokachi scored 13 goals including a goal vs Ivory Coast in the 1994 AFCON, against Bulgaria, Greece in 1994 World Cup in a total of 43 appearances for Eagles.
