Buhari Confers National Awards On Amusan, Brume, and other CWG Athletes, Gift Cash To Team Nigeria

The president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR has conferred a national honour on Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume and other Nigerian athletes in Abuja.

As reported by SportsRation on Monday, Nigeria’s Athletes to the just concluded Commonwealth Games in Birmingham have been rewarded today.

The athletes who secured Nigeria’s best-ever finish at the Commonwealth games were rewarded with national honours and cash rewards.

For the first time in the history of Nigeria, four athletes were honoured with the Officer of The Order of Niger (OON).

The athletes in this Category A are; Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Blessing Oborududu and Fumilayo Folashade, all four athletes won a gold medal at the just concluded Commonwealth games.

Aside from the national honours, they were also gifted Four Million and Five hundred thousand naira each (N4.5m).

In Category B, 7 athletes who also won a gold medal at the Commonwealth games were conferred by President Buhari with the Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

The athletes in this category are Odunayo Adekuoroye, Onywkwere Chioma, Nwachukwu Goodness, Njideka Iyiazi, Ofili Favour, Lawal Afolashade, and Genesis Mercy.

They were each given N4.5m for their heroics.

In Category C, athletes who won silver medals were honoured with Federal Republic Medal Class 1 and cash gift of N2.5m.

Lastly, the Category D (bronze medalist) were honoured with Federal Republic Medal Class 2 with One Million and five hundred thousand naira (N1.5m).
