CAFCL Round Up: Rangers suffer heavy defeat, Rivers United take a giant step

Nigeria’s representatives at the ongoing CAF Champions League have everything to play for in the second leg of the first round of the competition.

The Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Rangers International suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Zamalek in Egypt with Nigerian striker Stanley Ohawuchi the brain behind the torment.

The former Heartland striker opened the scoring for the Egyptians and also provided the penalty that led to the fourth goal. Inform Rangers striker Bobby Clement scored another away goal for the Flying Antelopes to give them slim hope ahead of the 2nd leg.

All hopes are not lost for Rangers, with a perfect game in Enugu the reigning Nigeria Professional Football League champions could make it to the next round.

Rivers United trashed Sudanese side Al-Merreikh in the other fixture in Port-Harcourt. Brace from Guy Kueiman and Esosa Igbinobia late goal ensured United take a good lead ahead of 2nd leg in Sudan.

Guy Kueiman becomes the 3rd @RiversUnitedFC player to score a brace in the #CAFCL this season after Bernard Ovoke & Esosa Igbinobia.

Rivers United will tackle Al-Merreikh on 18th of March in the 2nd leg in Sudan hoping their 3 goals advantage will take them to the next stage while Rangers will play Zamalek in Enugu on the 19th of March.
