Cristiano Ronaldo named Premier League Player of the Month

Manchester United forward beats competition from Salah, four others

Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has been named as the EA Sports Premier League Player of the Month for September after a series of sterling performances for Manchester United since his return to the club.

Ronaldo scored three goals in three league matches in September to claim the award for the month of September ahead of Liverpool ace Mohamed Salah, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, Manchester City defender Joao Cancelo, Watford winger Ismaila Sarr and Newcastle United forward Allan Saint-Maximin.

Ronaldo enjoyed a dream second debut with the club as he found the net twice on his debut against Newcastle United in a 4-1 win at Old Trafford. The Portuguese great also scored the opening goal in his side’s 2-1 win over West Ham United.

Ronaldo’s Player of the Month award for September 2021 comes a remarkable 13 years after his last award, which came in March 2008, making it the longest gap between two Player of the Month awards in English Premier League history. The Portuguese has now won the award five times in his career, with the previous four coming earlier in his career at Manchester United.

The legendary forward now takes the Player of the Month award in the second month of the season after West Ham United forward Michail Antonio won the award in August.
