De Bruyne drops masterclass on return from injury to lead Belgium into RO16

Netherlands through to knockout stages, Ukraine defeats North Macedonia

Belgium and Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne was unplayable for Belgium as they came back from a goal down to secure a 2-1 win and, by extension, a place in the knockout stages of Euro 2020. Denmark took an early lead through RB Leipzig striker Yussuf Poulsen after just two minutes and looked like the better side throughout the first half. The halftime introduction of De Bruyne ultimately proved to be the difference as the Manchester City man connected seamlessly with the attack before providing an assist for Thorgan Hazard in the 54th minute. The 29-year-old was once again in the thick of things, with his first-time finish from an Eden Hazard layoff beating the Denmark keeper at the near post and giving Belgium a deserved win.

Netherlands defeated Austria 2-0 in their second Group C match at Euro 2020 to secure qualification for the Round of 16. Memphis Depay gave the Dutch the lead from the spot after 11 minutes, before right-back Denzel Dumfries added a second in the 67th minute to close out a win for Netherlands and secure a last 16 berth for them going into their final group game against North Macedonia.

Ukraine defeated North Macedonia 2-1 to move into second place on the group table and give themselves a chance of qualifying for the knockout stage. Goals from Andriy Yarmolenko and Roman Yaremchuk put Ukraine in the lead before Leeds United’s Egzjan Alioski pulled one back for the debutants. Ukraine will take on Austria in a direct battle for Group C qualification in their next match, while North Macedonia has been eliminated from the tournament after two losses.
