Edwin van der Sar coming out of retirement to play for a fourth tier team
Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sarhas agreed to come out of retirement on a one-game basis.
The Dutchman hung up his gloves in 2011 following a trophy-laden six-year stint at Old Trafford.
However, he will now return to action for VV Noordwijk – the club where the 45-year-old started his career as an amateur.
Noordwijk approached Van der Sar after their number one keeper Mustafa Mare Zine suffered an injury.
“He still thinks warmly of the club and is here regularly,” Noordwijk’s technical director Peter Vink toldVoetbal.
“After some deliberation he agreed to keep goal next Saturday against Jodan Boys. We assume that it is basically only for one game. We are thrilled that Edwin wants to help us in this way.”
Noordwijk currently play in the fourth tier of Dutch football.
