Effective Ways To Improve Your Golf Game

Golf is a game that is easy to learn but difficult to master.

We won’t all become the next Tiger Woods or Arnold Palmer, but we can still improve our golf game, and perhaps beat the regulars down at the local green.

So, if you want to improve your handicap, these are just a few of the things you need to do.

#1: Work with a coach

You don’t need to pay for a coach, necessarily. If you have a friend who is better at golf than you, or if you can utilize the talents of a professional at your local golf club, ask for their advice. Alternatiively, do pay for a coach, as your handicap will soon improve under professional guidance. Work with them on your stance, improving your swing, and on mastering your pitches. These are the essentials of any golf game, and if you fall short in any way, the quality of your handicap will suffer.

#2: Try your hand at other golf courses

You will be inclined to practice your game at your local golf course, and that’s fine. But to challenge yourself, it’s advisable to try your hand at different golf courses. This will get you used to different environments, so if you ever do take up golf as a professional game, you will have the experience to play almost anywhere. So, play the other courses near you, and when on vacation, try your hand at some of the greatest golfing spots the world has to offer, including the Old Course, the so-called ‘home of golf’ at St. Andrews, the oldest golf course in the world. Here’s a link to Old Course Golf Accommodation if you do decide to go.

#3: Do something golf-related each day

You can still practice your game when you’re not playing at your local golf course. You could practice your stance while looking in the mirror, watch video tutorials online, remind yourself of golfing rules with the handbooks you own, and even try the virtual experience of Everybody’s Golf or similar if you have a console and VR set up at home (other golf games are available, even if you’re just playing with a regular gamepad).

Here are some of the other ways you can practice your game at home.

#4: Get your eyes tested

We’re being serious here, as the quality of your game will be affected by the quality of your visual skills. You need to have a clear vision when you’re aiming. You need to have excellent eye-hand coordination when it comes to the club and the ball. And you need to be able to recognize the rolls and hills of the course, the distance towards the holes, and any other subtleties that could affect your handicap. So, see your optician, and if you need to wear glasses or change your prescription, then do so.

#5: Improve your level of fitness

Yes, you need to improve your golfing technique, but you also need to improve your fitness level. After all, you need the power to swing your club, and you need the power to hit the ball to your desired range. Justin Thomas, the winner of the 2017 US PGA, attributed his improved level of fitness to his win, so add these HILT workouts to your daily schedule to improve your overall game.

We wish you every success with your golf game!
