Euro 2020 Day 4 Roundup: Czech Republic hammers Scotland, Slovakia claim giant scalp

Spain held to barren draw by Sweden

In Group D, Czech Republic and Scotland was likely to be a direct battle between two sides aiming for third place in the group, and Czech Republic came up trumps, winning 2-0 thanks to a superlative performance from RB Leipzig striker Patrick Schick. The striker opened the scoring after 42 minutes as he headed home a Vladimir Coufal cross before scoring an unforgettable goal from near the halfway line after 52 minutes to seal the win and give his side a valuable three points.

Minnows Slovakia stunned Poland 2-1 at the Gazprom Arena in Russia. They took a shock lead after 18 minutes when a Wojciech Szczesny gaffe ended with the ball in the back of the net. Poland equalised within seconds of the second half through Karol Linetty before losing midfielder Gregorz Krychowiak to a red card. Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar scored the winner seven minutes later in the 69th minute to seal the victory and take them to the top of Group E.

Spain and Sweden played out a goalless draw at the Estadio De la Cartuja in their Euro 2020 Group E opener. Spain had more than 85% of the ball and made 917 passes in the game, but struggled to break down a compact Sweden backline. Strikers Alvaro Morata and Marcus Berg were most culpable for missing the best chances for either side.
