Europa League: Moses, Onyekuru crash out, Chukwueze, Iwobi march on

It was mixed feelings for Nigerian players after the completion of the Europa League round of 32 games.

For Samuel Chukwueze and Alex Iwobi it was a case of ‘we go again’, while Victor Moses and Henry Onyekuru have their hopes ended after loses.

Here is the recap of how the Nigerian players faired on Thursday.

Victor Moses (Fenerbahce)

Retired Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses was unable to save his side from getting knocked out of the Europa League after their 3-1 away loss on Thursday.

Victor Moses was on the pitch through out at Gazprom Arena. Their 1-0 home win in the first leg wasn’t enough as Fener crashed out 3-2 on aggregate.

Alex Iwobi (Arsenal)

Alex Iwobi helped Arsenal to overcome a 1-0 away loss to Bate with a 3-0 win at Emirates Stadium on Thursday.

Skillful Iwobi was a constant threat to the visitors as Arsenal march unto the next round after an aggregate 3-1 win.

Henry Onyekuru (Galatasaray)

Everton loanee was unlucky to not have made it to the next round after his impressive display against Europa League regulars, Benfica on Thursday.

Henry Onyekuru tried his best but just didn’t change the 0-0 scoreline as he was hobbed off in the 83rd minute for Yunus Akgun.

The goalless draw at the Estadio da Luz didn’t help much as Benfica scaled through after 2-1 aggregate, thanks to their first leg win in Turkey.

Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal)

Super Eagles winger, Samuel Chukwueze was not listed as Villarreal nicked a 1-1 home draw against 10-man Sporting Lisbon on Thursday.

The Yellow Submarines came from a goal down to beat the Portuguese giants at the Estadio de la Ceramica.

Although Chukwueze wasn’t on the pitch or bench yesterday, his contribution in his side’s 1-0 away win in the first leg helped pushed Villarreal to a 2-1 aggregate win and a place in the next round.
