FIFA Ranking: Argentina now world´s number one team, Nigeria 67th in the world and 14th in Africa

Argentina have returned to the number one spot in FIFA’s world rankings, ending Belgium’s five-month stint at the top.

Gerardo Martino’s men recorded victories over Chile and Bolivia in World Cup qualification last month, while Belgium suffered defeat to Portugal.

Argentina were previously first in July 2015 after reaching the Copa America final, but promptly lost that spot to Marc Wilmots’ men, who they have now passed again.

Despite their defeat to Argentina, Chile move up two spots to third place having defeated Venezuela in their other game, while another CONMEBOL side, Colombia, surge from eighth to fourth after wins over Bolivia and Ecuador.

World champions Germany drop down one position to fifth after losing to England and winning against Italy, while Spain drop from third to sixth after back-to-back draws against Italy and Romania.

Brazil and Portugal move down to seventh and eighth respectively, while Uruguay are up two positions to ninth and England drop down one place to round off the top 10.

Nigeria are 67th in the world and 14th in Africa having drop down five places in the new ranking.

Turkey are the biggest movers in the top 20, climbing seven places to 13th having beaten Sweden and Austria, while Mexico rise six places to 16th and Euro 2016 hosts France move up three spots to 21.

Croatia and Wales both drop five and seven positions respectively and now occupy places 23 and 24.
