Fortuna Köln willing to supply a lifetime beer to Cristiano Ronaldo if he joins them for free

A lower league German football club has jokingly offered Cristiano Ronaldo a lifetime’s supply of beer to sign for them.

Fortuna Köln, who play in the third tier, wrote on Twitter that they were looking for a new forward but could only pay through a local brew in place of the 32-year-old’s exorbitant wages.

‘Hey Cristiano, we’re still looking for a striker – we don’t have money, but we can offer you free Kölsch for life,’ the club wrote.

Ronaldo’s future has been subject to intense speculation over the past few days after Portuguese newspaper A Bola claimed he had made an ‘irreversible’ decision to leave Real Madrid.

As well as Manchester United being tipped as hot favourites to reclaim his signature, there’s another reason Ronaldo is unlikely to sign for the German third division club: he doesn’t drink.

‘I drink Red Bull while I buy my friends champagne at £1,000-plus a bottle,’ Ronaldo said in an interview in 2011.

‘It’s no problem – I like my friends to be happy.’
