Goals galore as Manchester United stroll into UEL final despite defeat in Rome

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leads Red Devils to first major final in his tenure

Manchester United sealed their qualification into the final of the UEFA Europa League following a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Italian side, AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome. Manchester United. It was a goal fest over both legs, with Manchester United prevailing 8-5 on aggregate.

The match in Rome started quite brightly, with AS Roma doing all the probing, but David De Gea kept them at bay with a brilliant display before Uruguayan striker, Edinson Cavani finished brilliantly when one-on-one with the Roma goalkeeper in the 39th minute to open the scoring. AS Roma looked to muster a response but were thwarted repeatedly by De Gea in the Manchester United goal before Edin Dzeko finally got them level in the 57th minute with a fine header. Midfielder, Bryan Cristante added a second only three minutes later with an effort from outside the box as AS Roma turned the tie around. Another string of De Gea saves kept the scores at 2-1 before Cavani stole beyond the Roma defence to power a cross from Bruno Fernanded home in the 68th minute to pull his side level. Teenage striker, Nikola Zalewski was introduced by AS Roma and it was his shot that was deflected beyond De Gea by Alex Telles in the 83rd minute to secure the win for AS Roma on the night.

Edinson Cavani became the first player ever to score multiple goals in two legs of the major European semifinal with his efforts against AS Roma. Manchester United will go through to their first major final under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and will now face Villarreal in the final of the competition on May 26 in Gdansk, Poland.
