Holders, Bayern Munich rip Lazio to shreds in Champions League

Bayern Munich are on course to successfully defend their Champions League title after a 6-2 aggregate victory over Italian side, Lazio. The German giants won the first leg at the Stadio Olimpico 4-1 and finished the job with a 2-1 win at the Allianz Arena.

Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring from the penalty spot as he sent Lazio keeper, Pepe Reina the wrong way in the 33rd minute of the encounter. After he was substituted on as a replacement for Lewandowski, Eric Maxim Choupo Moting found the back of the net to make it 2-0 for Bayern Munich. Lazio pulled one back through a Marco Parolo header in the 82nd minute, and the game ended 2-1.

Bayern Munich will be part of Friday’s quarterfinal draw, and teams will be looking to avoid them because they look like the side that won the treble last season with their quality and efficiency. They have now won all seven of their knockout games under Hansi Flick.
