NFF insists Godswill Akpabio Stadium not Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium will host Nigeria v Algeria WC qualifier clash

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has stated that the 2018 World Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles and Algeria, will be played at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo and not the Adokiye Amiesiamaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.

Uyo hosted the last AFCON 2017 qualifier against Tanzania .

This week, the Rivers State Commissioner of Sports, Boma Iyaye, said: “Rivers State is ready to play the perfect host to the Super Eagles and the international community ahead of this important game.

“The Super Eagles and Olympic football team have played competitive and friendly matches here in Port Harcourt in the past so this is not novelty in any way.

“It is the utmost desire of the Rivers State Government to support the Super Eagles to ensure qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia.”

However, the NFF’s spokesman, Ademola Olajire informedCompletesportsnigeria.com that “Our game against the Algerians will take place at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium‎.

“I don’t know where the Port Harcourt story came from, but it’s important for media men to confirm story like this from the NFF before releasing it out for public consumption.

“The NFF didn’t write any letter to the Rivers State government as we have already concluded on the choice of Uyo for the game.”

It will be the Super Eagles’ second game in the 2018 World Cup qualifying series, after they face Zambia in Ndola on October 9.
