Manchester United concede late goal at Old Trafford against Milan

Diallo scores first goal for Red Devils

Manchester United and AC Milan faced off in the Round of 16 first leg encounter of this season’s Europa League at their Old Trafford home ground on Thursday in an exciting game that had drama right at the end as AC Milan were able to pick up a 1-1 draw.

AC Milan, without a string of regulars including superstar striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic had the ball in the back of the net twice in the opening 25 minutes, but the goals were disallowed first for offside, then handball. After this, Manchester United began to turn the screw and should have been ahead when Harry Maguire hit the frame of goal from about two yards out. The half time introduction of Ivorian teenage sensation, Amad Diallo paid immediate dividends as the teenager’s run was found by a searching pass from Bruno Fernandes, and his flicked header went over Gianluigi Donnarumma in the Milan goal to give the home side the lead in the 50th minute. Milan brought the drama very late in the game as Danish centre back, Simon Kjaer stepped forward to head home from a corner, scoring a valuable away goal for his side.

Diallo’s goal made him the fourth youngest European scorer in Manchester United’s history. Both sides have all to play for at the San Siro next Thursday, but Milan’s away goal has swung the balance slightly in their favour.
