Nigeria may lose CWG relay gold as Grace Nwokocha tests positive for ban substances

Grace Nwokocha has tested positive for ban substances and has been handed a provisional suspension by the Athleticis Intergrity Unit.

Nwokocha who has been in the form of her life was suspended temporarily from participating in any competition or activity in Athletics.

The three-time Nigeria champion in 100m has clocked her personal bests in 100m and 200m this season with 10.97s and 22.44s.

She was the anchor of the Nigeria’s 4x100m relay team who won the gold medal at the just concluded Common Wealth games in Birmingham.

The quartet of Tobi Amusan, Rosemary Chukwuma, Favour Ofili, and Grace Nwokocha set African record of 42.10s as they claimed the top prize.

Grace Nwokocha tested positive to two banned substances: Ligandrol and Ostarine – drugs used to treat ‘muscle wasting’.

Until the final hearing she is just temporarily suspended – if confirmed to be guilty by the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules or the Integrity Code of Conduct, Nigeria will lose the relay gold won in Birmingham.
