Nwagua header sends Kano Pillars to NPFL summit

Enyimba, Rivers United, Kwara United stutter

Kano Pillars striker, Nyima Nwagua scored a 9th minute header from a corner kick by Auwalu Ali Malam to give his side all three points when they hosted Sunshine Stars at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. The result coupled with results elsewhere ensured that Kano Pillars have moved to the top of the NPFL log on 23 points. It is also the first time Pillars have reached the top of the table since 2018.

Enyimba conceded a 93rd minute equaliser against Akwa United at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. Enyimba went in front through captain Austin Oladapo in the 53rd minute following a flowing team move, but were pegged back in the last minute of added time as a freekick was floated to the back post and Charles Atshimene knocked down the ball for defender Philip David to score his first ever goal for the Promise Keepers from close range.

Abia Warriors were seconds away from recording a first away victory of the season as they played out a 1-1 draw with Kwara United at the Kwara State Sports complex in Ilorin. They took a second half lead through Mustapha Jibreel and hung on only for Kwara United to equalise through Alao Danbani in the 95th minute and put a dagger through their hearts. The Umuahia Landlords have risen up to 15th on the log as Kwara United drop to 2nd.

Wikki Tourists picked up all three points with a 2-1 win as they hosted Rangers International at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in Bauchi. Wikki went in front through a penalty from Idris Muhammed Guda before receiving a red card as Peter Ambrose was sent off, all in the first half. Israel Abia equalised for Rangers before a 95th minute strike from Ibrahim Sale settled the encounter and gave Wikki the win.

Warri Wolves picked up their first NPFL win over Rivers United with a 1-0 win at home. The Pride of Rivers seemed to be hungover from their continental exertions as they seemed devoid of ideas. Emeka Udoh scored the lone goal for the Seasiders who remain in 19th place on the table, while Rivers United fall to 7th.

Plateau United moved out of the relegation zone with a routine 3-0 win over visiting Jigawa Golden Stars. Salefu Oche opened the scoring before a brace from Ibrahim Mustapha secured the points.

Nasarawa United pummeled visiting FC Ifeanyi Ubah 3-0 at the Lafia Township Stadium to move up to 5th on the table. Ikenna Ofor gave the Solid Miners a 10th minute lead before Adamu Hassan scored twice in the second half to complete the thrashing and keep the Anambra Warriors in 18th place.
