Okocha: South Africa not Ghana, or Cameroon to Nigeria
Former Super Eagles captain, Augustine Okocha has shut down the talks of Bafana Bafana of of South Africa as Super Eagles of Nigeria’s rival ahead of their AFCON qualifier clash in Johannesburg on Saturday.
The former PSG midfielder who never lost a game the South Africans during his days played down the rival tag placed on the Bafana Bafana who has lost 7 games and won just 2 against the Super Eagles.
“No, we do not see South Africa as our rivals, but we know that they are very tough opponents,” Okocha told Soccerladuma.co.za.
“Maybe the Nigerians who are living here (in South Africa) see that as bragging rights, but I do not have to go with what fans make of the game.
“I speak as a football personality, somebody who has been there before, you know. So I know they are not our rivals, but it is always a good match to watch.”
Okocha, who works in South Africa as an analyst is hopeful for an exciting match on Saturday.
“Well, may the better team win! I want to enjoy the game,” he added.
“I want to see a good, very competitive match. Of course, my heart is with Nigeria, but if South Africa deserve it, they should win,” The legendary midfielder who scored in Super Eagles 4-0 victory against Bafana Bafana of South in 2004 AFCON group game.
