Ondo Sports Commissioner Charges Sunshine Stars Ahead of New NPFL season.

The Commissioner for Youth Developments and Sports in Ondo State, Mr Saka Yusuf Ogunleye on Tuesday dinner time charged the players and coaches of Sunshine Stars FC to do the state proud in the new Nigeria Professional Football League, (NPFL) Season.

Ogunleye gave the charges during a visit to the team’s closed camping base in Iloko, in company of his Ministry Director of Sports, Chief Wande Fabuluje, Director Youths, Lekan Oluborode alongside general manager Ondo State Sports Council Mrs Joyce Aknbulumo and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Students Affairs.

The Commissioner who was received by the Director of Sunshine Stars, Prince Babatunde Ogunja and other team’s officials posited that results from the Club in the 2017/18 NPFL campaign will spur the Governor Rotimi Akeredolu led the state government to do more for the team this year and beyond.

Ogunleye stated: “Let me again, first of all, thank the Interim Committee, the coach (Duke Udi) and the players for working hard to ensure we escaped relegation last season and get to the AITEO Cup semifinal. The efforts were a good value for money spent, and I say thank you for that.

“The governor is aware you are here and we have been following your friendly matches, we hope the performace will be carried in into the season. We want you to do us proud this season and it is your good results that will motivate the government to do more for you.

“We are passionate about your welfare. We are passionate about pleasing you, just try do your own part by playing with commitment. There will be no room for unrest this season, the Sports Council GM is here. We will play our matches under peace atmosphere in Akure that I can assure you. I will always be on ground to support you guys.”

While speaking, Club Director, Prince Ogunja, a former international thanked the commissioner and his entourage for the visit and talked up the readiness of Sunshine Stars for the new season.

“We so much appreciate you and your entourage for this visit my honourable commissioner. I want to assure you, Mr Governor and the good people of Ondo State that this team is ready to aim for glory this season. The management, coaches and players are all ready to discharge their duties effectively. Don’t be far from us we need more of you around. We thank you once again for the visit.”

Sunshine Stars played and won two friendly matches Tuesday at the Olashore International School Sports Complex; 3-0 against Elebu-Ibon City FC and 2-0 versus Ede United FC.
