Is Paul Pogba Worth His Price Tag?

By: Raphael Minter

Paul Pogba is a subject of big money move to Mmanchester United and Real Madrid. He was named in the 2015 FIFPRO World XI but is he worth the amount that has been placed on his head?

Paul Poga has had a great start to his footballing career. At 23, he has won the Serie A and the Italian Cup on numerous occasions and has played in both the Uefa Champions League final with Juventus and the Uefa Euro final with France.

Pogba won the accolade as the best player at the Under-20 FIFA World Cup in 2013 and the Best Young Player at the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014.

For a footballer to be prized over a 100 million Pounds means that the player has done it all and does not bear any question marks with regards to his price tag.

At Juventus, Pogba has filled in the void left by Andrea Pirlo but he has been supported immensely by Paulo Dybala, Juan Cuadrado and Sami Khedira.

At the Uefa Euro 2016, Antoine Griezmann was the best player of the tournament and also the poster boy for the French national team, his impact was immense.

Paul Pogba has always been a team player but not imprinted his personality on Juventus like the way Cristiano Ronaldo has done for Madrid, Messi for Barcelona and Ricardo Kaka back in Milan’s golden generation.

If all reports claiming that Manchester United have met his price tag are true then Paul Pogba will become the most expensive transfer of all time.

This undoubtedly comes with a lot questions and the main argument would be centered around his performance.

Would Paul Pogba Be a Flop or A Success?

Many footballers performed extensively to meet their price tag but their performances were not well-received by their fans.

Fernando Torres was part of the Chelsea team that won the 2012 Uefa Champions League and 2013 Uefa Europa League, but many fans of the London based club still consider him as a flop amidst his performances for the club as they could not use his performances to define his price tag.

Paul Pogba is a different player altogether and a former Manchester United youngster so the story might be a little different.

Pogba would be looking to emulate Gareth Bale if his deal with Manchester United goes through.

At Real Madrid, Ronaldo stayed as the poster boy but Gareth Bale if part of the three leading men for the club and second in command. He has been involved in all the successes of Real Madrid scoring in the final of the Copa Del Rey win over FC Barcelona in 2014 and scoring in the final of the 2014 Uefa Champions League final against Atletico Madrid in Lisbon. In 2016, he was also part of the first five penalty takers for Madrid and he scored.

Football fans never expected the price tags of footballers to reach such heights and if Paul Pogba’s transfer to Manchester United becomes a reality, football fans would back him to be a success because a transfer in excess of a 100 million pounds is worth the price of a football club.
