Red-hot Tobi Amusan sets new world record to qualify for women’s 100mH final

Tobi Amusan continued with her recent dominance of the women’s 100m Hurdles as she set a new world record in the semifinal of the event at the 2022 World Athletics Championship in Oregon. The Nigerian star became the first from the country to set a world record.

Having set a new African record of 12.40 seconds in her heat to qualify for the semifinals, Tobi Amusan put on a show against a very strong field that included USA’s world-record holder Kendra Harrison, Britain’s Cindy Sember and Jamaica’s Danielle Williams to book her place in the final in style.

Amusan finished the race in 12.12 seconds to beat the record of 12.20 seconds previously held by Harrison since 2016. Harrison and Williams finished in second and third place, respectively. Amusan has become the first Nigerian athlete to set a world record in any event.
