Sikiru Alimi: It feels great to win the VAT Wonder Goal Award, attributes current form to hardwork

NPFL VAT Wonder Goal winner for Matchday 16, Sunshine Stars’ Sikiru Alimi has expressed his delight on winning the Goal Award while attributing his current form to sheer determination and hardwork.

In an exclusive interview with sportsration.com the Akure Gunners forward said it was a great feeling for him to be crowned winner of the Matchday 16 Award.
“It’s a great feeling for me as it is my first time of winning such and it’s a good step for me, I think I am getting better, it has mainly been due to hardwork, getting goals in the NPFL is not an easy task for the strikers, you have to really work hard for it, and so I am glad this is coming for me at this time” Alimi said.

I just want to keep getting better each week and helping my time and continue bringing smiles to the faces of the Akure Gunners fans”, Alimi revealed when asked on his personal target for the season.

Sunshine Stars are one point above the relegation zone in the NPFL but Alimi is optimistic that they can beat the drop

“Of course we can, we don’t belong to the NNL, I believe Sunshine Stars will shake off the relegation fear, although it’s wasnt our football that got us to where we are now but crowd violence”

Speaking further on the not too impressive performance of Nigerian teams in CAF Club Competitions, Sikiru Alimi said “We do not sometimes have worthy NPFL champions and we always lose our best legs due to players welfare and when you do, you can’t perform well on the continent”

Sikiru Alimi has scored five goals in the NPFL so far this season.
