South Africa’s coach Baxter plans hattrick of win over Nigeria

South Africa’s coach, Stuart Baxter is not losing tought over his much fancied opponents, Super Eagles of Nigeria in Saturday’s AFCON qualifier in Johannesburg.

The 65-year old manager has everything planned on how he will once again beat the highly rated Super Eagles side.

The English manager who was in charge the only times South Africa beat Nigeria in the Mandela Challenge in 2004 and in a matchday-1 fixture of 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in Uyo 17 months ago is looking for his third win against Super Eagles.

“I have an idea of what I need to do although there might be one or two changes and I also need to fine-tune a few areas ahead of Saturday’s game,” Baxter was quoted on safa.net.

“But I must say that I was very happy with the training today.”

“We need to stifle them and not give them any momentum. They (players) need to relax at the right time and be aggressive at the right time.”

“I don’t believe the ongoing heat wave will be an issue to either side, after all, most of Nigeria’s players play overseas.

“We definitely need a good crowd like what greeted us in Uyo in the reverse fixture; truth is a small crowd won’t be an advantage to us.”

A draw for Nigeria at FNB Stadium Johannesburg will guarantee a place for Super Eagles in the 2019 Nations Cup.
