Tianjin Teda 2 Shanghai Shenhua 4; Mikel Obi on target in 6-goal thriller

Super Eagles captain, John Mikel Obi has scored his second league of the season after finding the back of the net in Tianjin Teda’s 2-4 home loss to Shanghai Shenhua.

The former Chelsea midfielder who has missed a couple of games this season due to injury was on song on Sunday, however, on the losing side.

It was the visitors who took the lead in the 14th minutes of the game when Giovanni Andres Moreno scored with a header from Shilin Sun’s good ball from a corner kick.

John Obi Mikel equalized for the home team in the 21st minutes of the game after he tapped a rebound ball into an open net. Yuanyi Li ball from a free kick was blocked by the keeper into Mikel’s path and he buried it.

Ghanaian striker Frank Acheampong increased the Tianjin TEDA’s tally to two with a goal from the spot kick in the 30th minutes of the game.

The penalty was awarded to the home team after Jiajun Bai tripped Frank Acheampong.

It could have been three for Tianjin TEDA after another penalty was awarded to them following a foul on John Obi Mikel by Demba Ba, but Frank Acheampong missed the penalty.

Just 6 minutes after Frank Acheampong missed the penalty, the visitors equalized through Jianrong Zhu in the 44th minutes.

At halftime, it was all squared with John Obi Mikel’s Tianjin TEDA with the largest ball possession. Jianrong Zhu goal in the 86th minutes and Fredy Guarin’s goal from a direct free-kick in the 90+ minutes settled the 6-goal thriller.
