Warriors coach Kerr slams officials, backs Curry

Golden State Warriors coach Steve Kerr slammed officials after Stephen Curry fouled out in game six of the NBA Finals, while insisting he has no concerns over a potential suspension for the MVP.

Curry was ejected in the fourth quarter of the Warriors’ 115-101 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on Thursday after angrily throwing his mouthguard into the crowd following his sixth personal foul.

Kerr said the foul calls against the 28-year-old were unfair, accusing LeBron James – who had 41 points and 11 assists – of exaggerating contact for the sixth one.

“He’s the MVP of the league. He gets six fouls called that are absolutely ridiculous,” he said.

“He steals a ball form Kyrie [Irving] clean at one point, LeBron flops on the last one, Jason Phillips falls for that.

“It’s the MVP of the league. We’re talking about these touch fouls in the NBA Finals.

“Let me be clear, we didn’t lose because of the officiating. They totally outplayed us and Cleveland deserved to win.

“But three of the six fouls were incredibly inappropriate calls for anybody, much less the MVP of the league.”

Kerr said he was “happy” Curry threw his mouthguard after his final foul, while accusing the Cavs of constantly holding the guard and fellow star Klay Thompson.

Asked if he was worried Curry could face a suspension for Sunday’s game seven, a smiling Kerr said: “No, I’m not concerned about that.”
