Warriors stay on track for record, Clippers clinch play-off spot

Reigning NBA champions the Golden State Warriors stayed a game ahead of the pace set by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls after defeating the lowly Philadelphia 76ers 117-105 on Sunday.

Klay Thompson posted 40 points and Draymond Green had a triple-double, finishing with 13 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists to help the Warriors improve to 66-7 as they look to eclipse the league record of 72 regular-season wins.

The Bulls boasted a 65-8 win-loss record through 73 games 20 years ago.

NBA MVP Stephen Curry scored 20 points as the Warriors made it 53 straight regular-season victories at Oracle Arena.

The 76ers, who lost their ninth consecutive game, were led by Carl Landry’s 22 points.

In Los Angeles, the Clippers booked their spot in the play-offs thanks to a 105-90 win at home to the Denver Nuggets.

DeAndre Jordan came up big for the Clippers, recording 16 points, 16 rebounds and six blocks in a double-double display.

The win saw the Clippers became the fourth Western Conference team to seal a post-season berth.

D.J. Augustin’s 18 points and 10 assists led the Nuggets.

In other results, the Indiana Pacers overcame the Houston Rockets 104-101 despite 34 points from James Harden.

The eighth-placed Rockets remain half-a-game clear in the Western Conference after the Dallas Mavericks slumped to a 133-111 loss at the Sacramento Kings.

Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards beat the Los Angeles Lakers 101-88.
