Werner wasn’t doing enough for me- Lampard

Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard stated in his post match press conference that his German striker, Timo Werner was not giving him enough with and without the ball, necessitating his substitution after the first half of their game against Arsenal, which they lost 3-1.

Timo Werner had a measly passing accuracy of 57% and had only two weak shots in the first half of the game. He also failed to track Arsenal right-back Hector Bellerin’s runs into the Chelsea half, allowing his left back, Ben Chilwell to get overloaded on many occasions by Arsenal winger, Bukayo Saka and Bellerin.

Werner was signed from RB Leipzig in the summer for a fee of around £52 million, and has scored only 4 Premier League goals this season. He has also missed 8 big chances, hitting the woodwork 5 times already this season. He has however registered 4 assists and won 2 penalties. This is surprising from a man that scored 28 goals for RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga last season.

Werner has failed to find the net in any of his past 10 Chelsea appearances, his longest such barren run since he was a youngster at Stuttgart in 2016. He can only hope he picks up his form soon as his club enters into a hectic phase of the season.
