Akwa Utd continue impressive pre-season training, beat Abia Warriors in Uyo
Cyril Olisema’s early goal helped Akwa United to 1-0 victory over Abia Warriors at the training pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Sunday.
Olisema benefited from Musa Newman’s inch perfect cross to put the Promise Keepers ahead in the 6th minute of the game.
The friendly was Akwa United’s first pre-season match against a Nigeria Professional Football League team after beating five amateur clubs from the state in their previous outings.
Coach Abdu Maikaba used the match to assess the fitness level of his players including those currently training with the team with the hope of joining the club before the start of the new season.
The 2017 Aiteo Cup Champions have won all their six preseason matches scoring 36 goals.
Speaking after the match, Coach Abdu Maikaba said he was impressed with his team’s display but stressed that he still needs to assess the team in more competitive matches.
The Technical Adviser of Abia Warriors Raphael Everton maintained that his team lost against a tough opposition and emphasised that he will improve his team before the NPFL kickoff in January.
Akwa United will travel to Kano for two pre-season tournaments from 1st to 17th of December.
