Samuel Eto’o has made a bold claim that he not Didier Drogba, El Hadji Diouf or George Weah the only African player to have won the FIFA World Best is better than him.
The former Barcelona player shut down claims by Senegal’s El Hadji Diouf that he was the best African player ever by saying no one came close to him.
“Even if my brother Diouf the last time, with an extra glass, got a little lost, there is no debate”, said Eto’o, in a reference to the Diouf video where the former Senegal international appeared a little drunk.
“None of them [Diouf and Drogba] can come and say that they were at my level or better. And it’s not the fact that I say it, it’s a fact, it’s something that is there. I wanted to be number one and I have been throughout my career.”
Samuel Eto’o also said any striker not named Ronaldo de Lima is not better than him as the Fenomeno is the only striker he rates higher than him.
“The best of all was Ronaldo, ‘O Fenomeno’,” Eto’o was quoted as saying in a live chat by AS.
“I have such great respect and admiration for him. Then there are a lot of us who come up behind him, and I’d include myself among them.”
Samuel Eto’o won the Africa player of the year four times; played for clubs like Real Madrid, Mallorca, Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea.
He won four Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, a Serie A, a Coppa Italia, and the FIFA Club World Cup during his successful career.
