United States coach Mike Krzyzewski: Bryant wanted no part in Olympic team
United States coach Mike Krzyzewski said Kobe Bryant had no desire to play at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Bryant retired from the Los Angeles Lakers following the NBA regular season, but there is precedent for a retired NBA player participating in the Olympics.
Magic Johnson was a part of the ‘Dream Team’ in 1992 after retiring from the NBA.
Speaking on Bryant via ESPN, Krzyzewski said: “The very first thing I would say is, ‘Take a look at the tape of the game and see if that may not be the one you go out on. Let’s talk after.’
“And he probably wouldn’t call. He wouldn’t be able to take 50 shots here.”
Krzyzewski said Jerry Colangelo, the managing director for USA men’s basketball, confirmed that Bryant was not looking to play in Rio.
“He said, ‘Thank you but no,'” Krzyzewski said.
