2022 French Open Day Three: Tsitsipas, Medvedev through to second round

World number four Stefanos Tsitsipas overcame a major scare to book his place in the second round of the 2022 French Open at the expense of unseeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti. The Greek star had to come back from two sets down to defeat Musetti in five sets 5-7 4-6 6-2 6-3 6-2 and avoid a huge upset.
World number two Daniil Medvedev defeated unseeded Facundo Bagnis without any major incidents in straight sets in Paris. The Russian secured a 6-2 6-2 6-2 win over his opponent to book his second round ticket.
Andrey Rublev needed to come from a set down to defeat Korea’s Kwon Soon-Woo and take the match 6-7 6-3 6-2 6-4 to progress to the second round of the French Open.
Eighth seed Casper Ruud came back from a set down to defeat veteran Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and qualify for the second round of the competition. The match ended 6-7 7-6 6-2 7-6 in favour of the Norwegian Ruud.
Denis Shapovalov was stunned out of the 2022 French Open after suffering a first-round defeat to Holger Rune in straight sets 3-6 1-6 6-7.
In the women’s draw, 11th seed Jessica Pegula qualified for the second round at Roland Garros. The American defeated Wang Qiang in straight sets 6-2 6-4 to qualify.
Third seed Paula Badosa defeated unseeded Fiona Ferro in straight sets 6-2 6-0 to qualify for the second round of the competition.
Seventh seed Aryna Sabalenka had to battle to overcome unseeded Frenchwoman Chloe Paquet in three sets. Sabalenka had lost the first set before coming back to claim a 2-6 6-3 6-4 win.
Simona Halep defeated Nastasja Mariana Schunk in their 2022 French Open. The Romanian star won in three sets 6-4 1-6 6-1 to qualify for the second round.
Karolina Pliskova defeated unseeded Frenchwoman Tessah Andrianjafitrimo in three sets 2-6 6-3 6-1 to qualify for the second round of the French Open.
