2022 French Open Day Two: Djokovic, Nadal breeze through as Osaka, Wawrinka crash out

13-time winner Rafael Nadal booked his place in the second round of the 2022 French Open after a straight sets win over Jordan Thompson in their first round meeting in Paris. The Spanish 5th seed won 6-2 6-2 6-2 to open his first Grand Slam since winning a record 21st title with a win.

World number one Novak Djokovic showed no signs of rust as he made his first appearance in a Grand Slam since he was denied entry into the Australian Open. The Serb defeated Yoshihito Nishioka in straight sets 6-3 6-1 6-0 to qualify for the second round.

Unseeded Frenchman Corentin Moutet defeated Stanislas Wawrinka in a thriller in their 2022 French Open first round encounter. Moutet claimed a 2-6 6-3 7-6 6-3 win to set up a second round meeting with Rafael Nadal.

Big American 17th seed Reilly Opelka was stunned by Filip Krojinovic in their first round meeting at the 2022 French Open. Krojinovic won in straight sets 7-6 6-2 6-3.

20th seed Marin Cilic defeated Attila Balasz in straight sets 6-0 6-1 6-2 to qualify for the second round of the French Open.

In the women’s draw, Naomi Osaka’s struggles continued as she was sent packing from the French Open after losing in straight sets to Amanda Anisimova 7-5 6-4. The Japanese star revealed that she may not play in Wimbledon after her latest disappointment.

World number one Iga Swiatek eased past Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets 6-2 6-0 to qualify for the second round of the French Open. The Pole has been a worthy successor to Ashleigh Barty, who retired in March.

World number two Barbora Krejcikova was stunned by unseeded Diane Parry in a three-set thriller, with the American claiming a 1-6 6-2 6-3 win to book her second round spot.

British number one Emma Raducanu survived a scare from teenager Linda Noskova on her French Open debut to claim a 6-7 7-5 6-1 win and book her place in the second round of the competition.

Angelique Kerber came from a set down to defeat Magdalena Frech 2-6 6-3 7-5 in their first round meeting at the French Open.
