2022 French Open Quarterfinals: Swiatek cruises into last four as Ruud, Cilic go through
Women’s World number one Iga Swiatek claimed a straight sets win over Jessica Pegula 6-3 6-2 in the 2022 French Open Quarterfinals to book her place in the last four of the tournament.
In defeating the world number 11 Pegula, 21-year-old Swiatek claimed her 33rd consecutive win, putting her into the top three for consecutive wins in women’s tennis since 2000, behind Venus and Serena Williams with 35 and 34 wins, respectively.
In the other 2022 French Open Quarterfinals, Daria Kasatkina overcame Veronika Kudermetova in straight sets 6-4 7-6 to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament. She will face Swiatek for a place in the final.
In the men’s draw, 20th seeded Marin Cilic needed five sets to overcome seventh seed Andrey Rublev, with the match ending 5-7 6-3 6-4 3-6 7-6 in favour of the veteran Croatian player.
In the day’s other quarterfinal, Eighth seed Casper Ruud defeated 19-year-old Holger Rune in four sets to book his place in the semifinals of the French Open. The Norwegian claimed a 6-1 4-6 7-6 6-3 over his opponent in the clash. Ruud will now face Cilic in the last four of the tournament.
