Equatorial Guinea’s national football team has taken swift action by expelling their captain, Emilio Nsue, and teammate Iban Edu from the squad until further notice.

The decision follows an alleged act of indiscipline, which prompted intervention from Ivorian police during the AFCON tournament.

The duo, represented Equatorial Guinea at the recent tournament. However, their involvement in the reported incident has led to their expulsion from the team, as confirmed by the country’s football governing body, FeGuiFut.

In an official statement released by FeGuiFut, it was stated that the players would not be part of the team until the matter is resolved. The statement, issued after a board meeting at the Equatorial Guinean Football Federation headquarters, highlighted the seriousness of the situation.

The expulsion of Nsue and Edu comes in the wake of their contributions to Equatorial Guinea’s journey to the Round of 16 at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where they eventually lost to Guinea.

Nsue, who also serves as the team captain, notably clinched the Golden Boot with five goals throughout the tournament, as reported by CAF Online.
