2023 Australian Open Day Five: Medvedev crashes out as Tsitsipas, Gauff, Swiatek progress

Sinner, Auger-Aliassime, Pegula all qualify

Daniil Medvedev suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Sebastian Korda to knock him out of the 2023 Australian Open. The seventh seed and two-time finalist fell in straight sets 6-7 3-6 6-7 to exit the tournament at the third round.

Stefanos Tsitsipas progressed to the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open following a straight sets win over Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor. The third seed won the match 6-2 7-6 6-3 to progress.

Hubert Hurkacz defeated Denis Shapovalov in their thrilling third round encounter at the Australian Open. The Pole held off a spirited fightback from Shapovalov to progress via a 7-6 6-4 1-6 4-6 6-3 scoreline.

Felix Auger-Aliassime needed four sets to dispatch Francisco Cerundolo in their third round meeting in Melbourne. The Canadian star won the match 6-1 3-6 6-1 6-4 to reach round four.

Jiri Lehecka stunned British number one Cameron Norrie, knocking him out of the Australian Open at the third round. The Czech star came back from a set down to win 6-7 6-3 3-6 6-1 6-4 and reach the Fourth Round.

Jannik Sinner recovered from two sets down to defeat Marton Fucsovics and reach the Fourth Round. The highly-rated Italian won the match despite losing the first two sets 4-6 4-6 6-1 6-2 6-0, finishing the match with a near-impeccable showing.

In the women’s draw, World number one Iga Swiatek brushed Spain’s Cristina Bucsa aside in straight sets, winning 6-0 6-1 to reach the Fourth Round.

Coco Gauff progressed to the fourth round of the 2023 Australian Open with a straight sets win over Bernarda Pera. Gauff won the match 6-3 6-2 to eliminate her compatriot and reach the Fourth Round.

Jessica Pegula made light work of Marta Kostyuk, defeating her in straight sets to reach the fourth round in Melbourne. The American claimed a 6-0 6-2 win in the clash.

Sixth seed Maria Sakkari was stunned by China’s Zhu Lin as she lost in three sets to crash out of the 2023 Australian Open. Lin won the match 7-6 1-6 6-4 to progress.

Viktoria Azarenka eased past Madison Keys to reach the Fourth Round at the 2023 Australian Open. She won the match despite losing the first set 1-6 6-2 6-1 to progress.
