2023 CAF Awards: Okocha, Mikel, Eto’o, Diouf headline list of African legends for award ceremony
Africa will today, December 11, gather in Morocco for the 2023 CAF awards ceremony. Invited as guests are legends like Nigeria’s Austin Okocha, Mikel Obi and Women’s great Perpetua Nkwocha.
The Nigerian trio of Austin Okocha, Mikel Obi, and Nkwocha will be joined by other African football legends like former Barcelona striker Samuel Eto’o who will be attending as President of Cameroon’s Football Federation.
Senegal’s El Hadji Diouf, Togo’s Emmanuel Adebayor, Jonathan Pitroipa, Kalusha Bwalya, Ahmed Hassan, and Patrick Mboma, are top names on the list of legends already identified and confirmed attendees.
The list is not limited to this number, with many others expected to arrive in Morocco before the event schedule to begin by 7pm [Nigerian time] in Morocco.
As part of build-up to the award ceremony, a novelty match was played on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at the Marrackech Stadium in honour of victims of the earthquake that rocked the North African country.
At the CAF Awards 2023 ceremony which will be held at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech, Morocco, all eyes will be on Nigerian duo Victor Osimhen and Asisat Oshoala as they look to claim the ultimate prize in the men’s and women’s categories.
Osimhen is in contention for the Men’s Player of the Year with Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi and Egypt forward Mohamed Salah.
