2023 French Open: Djokovic defeats Alcaraz, through to 34th Grand Slam final

Casper Ruud defeats Zverev to reach final

Novak Djokovic reached his 34th career Grand Slam final after defeating an injured Carlos Alcaraz in four sets in the 2023 French Open semifinals at Roland Garros.

The 22-time Grand Slam champion Djokovic won the first set 6-3 before the 20-year-old World number one Alcaraz claimed the second set 7-5 after some exquisite play on the court. The Spaniard, however, suffered an injury midway through the third set and struggled through the remainder of the match against his experienced opponent, losing 1-6 1-6 to crash out.

Djokovic claimed a 6-3 5-7 6-1 6-1 win to qualify for the final of the tournament, making history as the player in the Open Era, male or female, with the most Grand Slam final appearances.

In the second semifinal, fourth seed Casper Ruud booked his second consecutive Roland Garros final at the 2023 French Open with a straight sets win over German star Alexander Zverev.

Ruud was dominant on the court as the Norwegian claimed a 6-3 6-4 6-0 win against the 22nd seed to book his place in Sunday’s final against Djokovic.
