2023 French Open Round Two: Alcaraz, Djokovic, Tsitsipas cruise into third round

Pegula, Sabalenka, Kasatkina all reach third round

The 2023 French Open entered its fourth day of action as the second round matches commenced in the competition.

#1 seed Carlos Alcaraz Garfia booked his place in the third round with a win over Japanese star Taro Daniel in their second round meeting. Alcaraz won the match in four sets 6-1 3-6 6-1 6-2 to progress in the competition.

Third seed Novak Djokovic reached the third round of the 2023 French Open following a straight sets win over Hungary’s Marton Fucsovics in their second round clash. The Serb won 7-6 6-0 6-3 to qualify for the third round.

Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated unseeded Spaniard Roberto Carballes Baena in straight sets to reach the third round of the tournament in Roland Garros. The Greek prevailed 6-3 7-6 6-2 to progress in the tournament.

Seventh seed Andrey Rublev needed four sets to overcome Frenchman Corentin Moutet on home soil in the 2023 French Open, reaching the third round. The Russian claimed a 6-4 6-2 3-6 6-3 win in their second round clash.

Thanasi Kokkinakis eliminated veteran star Stanislas Wawrinka in five sets to reach the third round of the competition. The Australian claimed a 3-6 7-5 6-3 6-7 6-3 win over his experienced opponent in their second round meeting.

In the women’s draw, third seed Jessica Pegula booked her place in the third round of the competition after a walkover was awarded to her against Italian star Camila Giorgi. Pegula had won the first set 6-2 before Giorgi retired due to injury.

Second seed Aryna Sabalenka defeated Iryna Shymanovich in straight sets to qualify for the third round in Roland Garros. The Belarusian star won the game 7-5 6-2 against her compatriot.

Fifth seed Caroline Garcia was stunned by Anna Blinkova in three sets as the unseeded player booked her place in the third round of the competition with a strong comeback after losing the first set. The match ended 4-6 6-3 7-5 in favour of Blinkova.

Daria Kasatkina claimed a straight sets win over Marketa Vondrousova to reach the third round of the 2023 French Open. The ninth seed won 6-3 6-4 to overcome her Czech opponent.

Leylah Fernandez lost to Clara Tauson in three sets to crash out of the French Open in the second round. The one-time Grand Slam finalist lost 3-6 7-5 4-6 to her Norwegian opponent, who progressed to the third round.
