2023 U-17 AFCON: Second round of group stage matches review

Second round of group stage matches at the 2023 U-17 AFCON were completed on Thursday May 4. SPORTSRATION presents a review here.

RESULTS

Algeria 3-0 Senegal

Congo 1-1 Somalia

Nigeria 0-1 Morocco

Cameroon 0-1 Mali

STANDINGS 

Group A 

Senegal are top of the standings in group A with six points following wins over Congo and hosts Algeria. Algeria occupy second spot with three points, Congo are third with one point same as bottom placed Somalia.

Group B

Morocco lead the way in group B with six points, followed by Nigeria with three points. South Africa are third place with three points while Zambia are bottom with no points after two defeats.

Group C 

Following the disqualification of South Sudan, group C has three teams. Mali have won their two games to lead the way with Six points. Burkina Faso and Cameroon who have played a single game apiece occupy second and third place respectively with no point following defeat to Mali.

QUATER-FINAL QUALIFIED TEAMS AND PERMUTATION 

Three teams secured a spot in the quater-final at the conclusion of second round of matches. Senegal, Morocco, and Mali are through to the last-8.

Ahead of the second round of matches, the remaining teams will battle for the five remaining quater-final spots.

As it stands, the third placed teams in group A and B are on course to emerge as the best third placed teams at the 2023 U-17 AFCON In Algeria.
