Sixth seed and home favourite Coco Gauff became the first American teenager to reach the semifinals of the US Open since Serena Williams in 2001 when she defeated Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets in the quarterfinal meeting in Flushing Meadows. The 19-year-old claimed a dominant 6-0 6-2 win over her Latvian opponent to reach her maiden US Open semifinal.
Karolina Muchova set up a semifinal meeting with Coco Gauff at the 2023 US Open when she claimed a straight sets win over Romanian star Sorana Cirstea in their quarterfinal meeting. The 10th seed Czech star secured a 6-0 6-3 win over the 30th seed in the encounter.
In the men’s draw, second seed Novak Djokovic eased past ninth seed Taylor Fritz in straight sets to reach the semifinals of the US Open in style. The 36-year-old secured a 6-1 6-4 6-4 win over his American opponent to qualify for the last four.
Unseeded 20-year-old Ben Shelton defeated tenth seed Frances Tiafoe in four sets to reach the semifinals of the US Open, his first Grand Slam semifinal in only his fifth career appearance. The American claimed a 6-2 3-6 7-6 6-2 win over his compatriot to set up a meeting with Novak Djokovic.
