World number one Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon since 2007 when he sealed a straight sets win over childhood friend Holger Rune to reach the last four of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship. The 20-year-old Spaniard won the last eight tie 7-6 6-4 6-4 against his Danish opponent with whom he played as a teenager.
Third seed Daniil Medvedev survived a huge scare from unseeded American star Christopher Eubanks in their quarterfinal match before winning in five sets to book a meeting with Alcaraz in the semifinals. The Russian star won the first set before losing the next two, and then, winning the last two. Medvedev claimed a 6-4 1-6 4-6 7-6 6-1 win to reach the last four for the first time in his career.
In the women’s draw, world number two Aryna Sabalenka was simply too good for Madison Keys in their 2023 Wimbledon Championship quarterfinal meeting. The second seed claimed a 6-2 6-4 win in straight sets to reach the semifinals.
In the other quarterfinal, Ons Jabeur came from behind to defeat reigning Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in three sets and reach the semifinals of the tournament. The sixth seed claimed a 6-7 6-4 6-1 win to defeat her Kazakh opponent and book a semifinal meeting against Sabalenka.
