2023 Wimbledon Day Eight: Alcaraz, Djokovic, Jabeur storm last eight

World number one Carlos Alcaraz became the second Spaniard after Rafael Nadal to reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon before turning 21 as he defeated Matteo Berrettini in four sets at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship. The 20-year-old Spaniard claimed a 3-6 6-3 6-3 6-3 win after coming from a set down to demolish his Italian opponent.

Novak Djokovic rounded off his victory over Hubert Hurkacz to reach the quarterfinals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship, dropping his first set of the tournament against the Pole. Djokovic won the match 7-6 7-6 5-7 6-4 to progress.

Sixth seed Holger Rune fought back from a set down to defeat Grigor Dimitrov and reach the quarterfinals at Wimbledon. The Dane won the meeting 3-6 7-6 7-6 6-3 to book a quarterfinal meeting with Alcaraz.

Christopher Eubanks stunned Stefanos Tsitsipas to reach the quarterfinals of the competition with a five-set win in their fourth round meeting. The American came back from a set down to defeat the fifth seed 3-6 7-6 3-6 6-4 6-4 and progress from their tie.

Third seed Daniil Medvedev qualified for the quarterfinals after opponent Jiri Lehecka was forced off with an injury after two sets in their fourth round meeting. The Russian was leading 6-4 6-2 after two sets before his opponent retired due to injury.

In the women’s draw, sixth seed Ons Jabeur made light work of ninth seed Petra Kvitova, dispatching the Czech star in straight sets 6-0 6-3 to reach the last eight.

Second seed Aryna Sabalenka faced 21st seed Ekaterina Alexandrova and claimed a win in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship. Sabalenka defeated her opponent 6-4 6-0 in the clash.

Third seed Elena Rybakina qualified for the last eight after her opponent Beatriz Haddad Maia was forced off injured in their fourth round clash. Rybakina held a 4-1 lead in the first set before her opponent’s retirement.

16-year-old star Mirra Andreeva was sent crashing out by 25th seed Madison Keys in their fourth round meeting, with the American battling to a win in three sets. Andreeva won the first set before Keys recovered to win 3-6 7-6 6-2 and reach the last eight.
