2023 Wimbledon Day Three: Djokovic through to third round as Medvedev, Tsitsipas enter second round

Swiatek, Sinner, Kasatkina book third round spots

Novak Djokovic booked his place in the third round of the 2023 Wimbledon Championship with a straight sets win over Australian player Jordan Thompson in their second round meeting. The 23-time Grand Slam champion won the match 6-3 7-6 7-5 to progress in the competition.

Eighth seed Jannik Sinner also qualified for the third round after a straight sets win over Diego Schwartzmann in their second round encounter. The Italian claimed a 7-5 6-1 6-2 win over his Argentine opponent.

Third seed Daniil Medvedev reached the second round following a straight sets win over British player Arthur Fery. The Russian star and 2021 US Open champion claimed a 7-5 6-4 6-3 win to progress to Round Two.

Fifth seed Stefanos Tsitsipas knocked out Austrian star Dominic Thiem after an epic first-round clash at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship. The Greek star recovered from a set down to win in five sets 3-6 7-6 6-2 6-7 7-6 and progress to the second round of the tournament.

Sixth seed Holger Rune eased past British player George Loffhagen in straight sets to book his place in the second round of the competition. The Dane secured a 7-6 6-3 6-2 win over his opponent to progress in the competition.

In the women’s draw, World number one Iga Swiatek booked her place in the third round of the tournament with a straight sets win over Sara Sorribes Tormo. Swiatek won the match 6-2 6-0, going through her second game without dropping a set.

Daria Kasatkina also qualified for the third round at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship with a straight sets win over British player Jodie Anna Burrage, claiming a 6-0 6-2 win to progress.

Ninth seed Petra Kvitova overcame unseeded Italian Naomi Paolini in three sets to reach the second round of the competition. Kvitova picked up a 6-4 6-7 6-1 win to progress at the 2023 Wimbledon Championship.

Barbora Krejcikova defeated British player and home favourite Heather Watson to reach the second round of the competition. Krejcikova claimed a 6-2 7-5 win in straight sets to win the first round encounter.

Unseeded Ukrainian star Marta Kostyuk stunned eighth seed Maria Sakkari, coming from a set down to win their first round meeting. Kostyuk reached the second round with a 0-6 7-5 6-2 win over her Greek opponent.
