2023 Women’s World Cup: Sweden beat Australia to win bronze medal

Sweden defeated Australia 2-0 to win the bronze medal at the 2023 Women’s World Cup on Saturday August 19.

Goals in each half of the third place playoffs by Fridolina Rolf and skipper Kosovare Asllani were enough to hand Sweden the bronze medal in Brisbane.

Further heartbreak for Australia who finish outside the medal zone on home soil despite enjoying enormous support in all their matches of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

For Sweden, it is their second straight bronze medal, having finished in same spot at the 2019 edition.

With the third place playoffs concluded, attention now shifts to the grand finale on Sunday August 20.

England and Spain will do battle at the Sydney Stadium in Australia for who wins the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup title.

Both teams have never won the tournament before and so will go all out to achieve a taste of World Cup glory.
