2023 WWC: Waldrum buoyant of Super Falcons ability to beat Canada

Super Falcons of Nigeria Head Coach Randy Waldrum is buoyant of his teams ability to beat Canada in their opening game of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Australia will face Republic of Ireland on Thursday July 20 in the opening game of the World Cup before Nigeria face Canada in the other group A matchday one clash on July 21.

Ahead of the game, Nigeria Head Coach Randy Waldrum in an interview from their training camp in Brisbane, told NFF TV as shared on the Super Falcons Twitter page, of his team’s chances against Beverly Priestman tutored Canada on Friday,

” The Olympics Gold medalist, we know they are going to be very good, we played them twice the last year and have a lot of respect for them, ” Waldrum said.

” They are a very good side, very well coached, but I think we can have the ability to be successful if we perform and stick to our game plans.

Nigeria has not had a tidy build-up to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup due to controversy occasioned by word exchanges by the Head Coach and football federation.

On the pressure facing the Nigerian ladies, Waldrum was un-denying of its existence but said there is enough experience to guide the team to success in Australia and New Zealand

” I have said it every time we have done an interview, pressure is always there as a manager of a team, there’s pressure from the players, and they feel the pressure too, ” Waldrum added.

” And we have to learn to cope with that and manage that so that we can go into the match clear of head and not have things the way they stand.

” So we can play freely and the way want the team to play, we don’t want them to be uptied because of the pressure, and as a manager is my job not to display too much pressure in front of the team so that we can have them do what they need to do.” Waldrum said.
