2024 Australian Open Day 9: Alcaraz, Zverev, Medvedev, Hurkacz progress to quarters

Zheng, Yastremska, Noskova, Kalinskaya through to last eight

World number two Carlos Alcaraz put on a tennis clinic as he defeated Miomir Kecmanovic in straight sets 6-4 6-4 6-0 to reach the quarterfinals of the 2024 Australian Open. The 20-year-old has reached the last eight of the tournament for the first time.

Third seed Daniil Medvedev was too hot to handle for the unseeded Nuno Borges, as he picked up a win in four sets. The Russian won the game 6-3 7-6 5-7 6-1 to reach the last eight of the tournament.

Alexander Zverev played out a five-set thriller against British Star Cameron Norris in their fourth round meeting in Melbourne. The German star won the match 7-5 3-6 6-3 4-6 7-6 to advance into the quarterfinals.

Ninth seed Hubert Hurkacz booked his passage into the quarterfinals of the competition following a straight sets win over Arthur Cazaux. The Pole claimed a 7-6 7–6 6-4 win over the unseeded Frenchman to progress.

In the women’s draw, 12th seed Zheng Qinwen made light work of unseeded French star Oceane Dodin to reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne. Zheng won the match 6-0 6-3 in straight sets to progress from the match.

Unseeded Ukrainian Dayana Yastremska defeated Victoria Azarenka in straight sets at the fourth round stage of the 2024 Australian Open. Yastremska won the match 7-6 6-4 to reach the quarterfinals.

Linda Noskova picked up a quarterfinal ticket after her fourth round opponent, Elina Svitolina, retired from the match due to an injury in the first set, and she did not play any further.

Anna Kalinskaya defeated Jasmine Paolinj in straight sets 6-4 6-2 to reach the quarterfinals in Melbourne. It will be her first-ever appearance in the last eight of a Grand Slam.
